Welcoming an Intern from Universiti Sains Malaysia
In June 2026, JET welcomed a student from the School of Bioprocess Engineering Technology at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and launched a scholarship-supported internship program.
Following their arrival in Japan and a stay in Tokyo, the student began a three-month internship at Nagaoka University of Technology. In July, the student visited JET’s Nagaoka Office, where they gained hands-on experience operating various advanced instruments used for research and development, deepening their understanding of Japanese manufacturing and R&D practices. In August, the student is scheduled to return to Tokyo to continue the internship at JET.
JET has entered into a three-party agreement with Universiti Sains Malaysia and Nagaoka University of Technology to promote joint research on the volume reduction and effective utilization of food waste in Malaysia using the Environmental Recycling System (ERS), as well as the effective utilization of EFB (empty fruit bunch) and POME (palm oil mill effluent), a major biomass byproduct and waste water of the palm oil industry that remains underutilized in Southeast Asia, and student exchange and human resource development. This internship program is also being conducted as part of these collaborative efforts.
JET will continue to promote the development of the next generation of talent in the environmental and energy fields and foster international exchange through collaboration with universities and research institutions in Japan and abroad.
