Overview of the Demonstration Experiment

1. Experiment Title:
Demonstration Experiment on Fuel Conversion through Fermentation and Drying Treatment of Municipal Waste

2. Objective:
This experiment aimed to verify the effectiveness of fuel production using the ERS system by treating municipal waste through fermentation and drying (hereinafter referred to as “ERS-treated material”) and to evaluate its potential as an alternative fuel through the following verifications:

• Verification of fuel generation through fermentation and drying of municipal waste using the ERS system
• Verification of the quality and performance of the produced fuel
• Verification of greenhouse gas reduction effects when using the produced fuel in incineration processes

3. Location:
Minami-Izu Town Waste Management Center
1696 Minato, Minami-Izu Town, Kamo District, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

4. Implementation Period:
From October 2022 to September 2023 (one year)

5. Combustion Samples:
Municipal waste and ERS-treated material

6. Expected Effects of ERS Fermentation and Drying Treatment:

• Uniform moisture reduction and volume decrease of organic matter contained in municipal waste
• Odor reduction and improved storability of ERS-treated material, enhancing its utility as a fuel
• Improved combustion stability in incinerators when burning ERS-treated material
